Motorcycle 2011 Ducati Streetfighter S Edition

2011 Ducati Streetfighter S Chassis :

Single-sided swingarm

The single-sided swingarm is 35mm longer than the Superbike to ensure the Streetfighter’s acceleration need never be compromised. The longer, beautifully created aluminium swingarm follows the same dual construction detail as the Superbike models and is anodised finished in black.

Fighter frame
The purpose-built Trellis frame uses 25.6° of rake compared with the Superbike’s 24.5° to ensure a well-planted front-end.

Brembo Monobloc brakes
The Streetfighter S uses Brembo’s powerful Monobloc calliper race technology. Machined from a single piece of alloy, the callipers achieve higher rigidity and resistance to distortion during extreme braking. The result not only delivers planet-stopping brake power, but also gives an enhanced and precise ‘feel’ at the brake lever. The twin Monobloc callipers each have four 34mm pistons that grip huge 330mm discs to achieve their spectacular performance. The weight of the discs has been kept to a minimum by using racing-style narrow braking surfaces.

Ohlins rear suspension
Taking care of the rear of the ‘S’ is a single high-spec Öhlins unit fully adjustable in spring preload with full adjustment and highly engineered control of compression and rebound damping. The unit is also fitted with a ride enhancing top-out spring which helps maintain rear tyre contact under extreme conditions.

Marchesini 5-spoke wheels
The Streetfighter S reduces weight even further by using Y-shaped, 5-spoke wheels by Marchesini, forged and then machined in lightweight aluminium. The Streetfighter S wheels are finished in bronze.

Ohlins forks
The Streetfighter S pushes the spec way up with 43mm Superbike-spec Öhlins forks that have sliders treated in low-friction TiN. Fully adjustable in spring preload and precisely adjustable in compression and rebound damping, they ensure ‘S’ feeling and finesse when the fight gets rough.

2011 Ducati Streetfighter S Concept : Streetfighter culture

The Streetfighter culture was born on the backstreets of Northern Europe during the late 70s and 80s. If the Café racer movement had taken traditional bikes and transformed them to establish out-and-out sportbikes, then Streetfighters were definitely anti-establishment. They evolved by removing the fairings from sport bikes, fitting higher bars and customising to create high-performance, over-the-top nakeds.

Ducati’s Streetfighter project was inevitable. The passion to build the most successful Superbikes ever, mixed with the desire to create iconic, naked motorcycles was a rush of adrenaline just waiting to happen. Who else would create a bike for out-and-out purists to celebrate naked power in all its forms? A bike with muscle-engine performance, aggressive chassis engineering and intelligent electronics all laid bare to appreciate, respect and enjoy? Ducati build bikes for enthusiasts – for bikers who appreciate the details that come together to make an awesome bike.

Streetfighter design
The Ducati Streetfighter is equipped with everything that made the Superbike a legend: Awesome L-Twin muscle with brutal, big-bore torque, thoroughbred chassis technology, beautiful single-sided swingarm, planet-stopping Monobloc brakes and pure, sophisticated class.

While the tank and seat shapes leave no doubt as to the Streetfighter’s roots, it is the upright and commanding riding position that really starts to shape the character of this ultimate naked. New, minimalistic controls, instrumentation and headlight design leave the front looking clean and mean, while twin-stacked right-side mufflers at the rear leave the tail-end high and sharp. No other Ducati has ever achieved such an aggressive stance while providing a comfortable, empowering, controllable and enjoyable ride.

It formed the basis of the Ducati production/racing program for years to come. So advanced was the design that it was still in production throughout the 1980s ... 2007 Ducati SportClassic GT1000

2007 Ducati SportClassic GT1000The shapes of the GT1000 are modern interpretations of the classic lines of the original GTs of the 70s. The rather slim fuel tank features knee cut-outs on the sides and deep sculpting that allows a comfortable riding position. Full fender front is mounted with elegant aluminium tubing braces. The trim side covers remind us of the 70’s originals, and feature small venting holes for accent. Many of the details like the top crowns, fork caps and handlebar mounts are finished in polished aluminium, and are complimented with the chrome surfaces of the wheels, instrument trim, handlebars and horn covers. Finally, the classic look is completed with chrome full-length exhaust pipes and mufflers, one per side. The rider’s position on the GT1000 is one of comfort and control. The chromed tubular steel handlebars enables an upright riding position to be maintained. A well-padded dual seat is sewn in a classic pattern and features ’Ducati’ printed in white proudly on the back. Rider footpegs are placed conservatively forward allowing comfort and good ground clearance at the same time. The GT1000 is a true two-seater, so the passenger’s footpegs are also sensibly placed for all-day comfort.

The advanced Desmo 1000 Dual Spark engine powers the GT1000. The torquey air-cooled L-twin is the perfect match for the GT1000’s comfort and performance attributes. Alloy cylinders, with their traditional cooling fins form the classic "L" configuration, reminding us of the original Taglioni design. Slim between the legs and exposed for all to see, the latest two-valve Desmo system, fuel-injection, computer controlled engine management and Ducati Testastretta technology ensure that the 1000 DS engine is powerful, dependable and thrilling to ride.

2007 Ducati SportClassic GT1000The classic tradition of Italian Grand Touring returns in a successful mix of style and performance, available also in a special new two-tone version.

The philosophy that lies behind the new Ducati SportClassic family finds further emphasis in this new model, which completes the range and fully lives up to the expectations and promises made at the moment of its Tokyo Motorshow launch in October 2003.

As you would expect from a motorcycle inspired by the original icons of Ducati sport motorcycles, every element and component is built with only the highest quality materials and engineered with performance as a priority. Although classically inspired, the GT is a modern Ducati motorcycle, so it must be powerful, handle confidently and be exciting to ride every day.

2007 Ducati SportClassic GT1000The essential beauty and timeless style of the Ducati GT models of the 1970s now comes to life again with this bike. The new Ducati GT1000 is a bike to be ridden every day, with a balance of two-up comfort and Ducati Desmo Twin performance.

Ducati Diavel and Monster EVO Unveiling

Fransesco Rapisarda, Gabriele del Torchio and Diego Sgerbati introduced us into Ducati’s financial and marketing status before Claudio Domenicali entered the stage and introduced all the news starting with the Superbike family we already know from Intermot that I have already tested at Imola. Then Domenicali continued with the EICMA news starting of with the Monster family where the Monster 1100 EVO is new. The 1100 EVO gets the Hypermotard 100hp engine, new exhaust with new tubing at the front similar to what’s on the Diavel. It also gets traction control.

I personally need the design to grow a little bit on me. Let’s put it this way, I’m not completely convinced Wolverine would suit the Diavel. It remains to be seen whether the Diavel can achieve the same iconic profile as the V-Rod. A bike like this is bought with the heart through the eyes, not necessarily with what’s best through your right hand on the twisties. Let’s hope it can do well, I love the name!

One thing is for certain and that is if you want to run with the devil, or Diavel, you are going to need some hair on your chest. It’s a very macho and un-Italian bike. I asked Domenicali whether the development team had any US input, but he categorically denied this stating it was a 100% Italian effort. There’s also an issue with categorizing this bike as Ducati stands hard on claiming they have created a new segment. Whatever Ducati says, this bike will be compared with uneven competition such as the Harley-Davidson Muscle/V-Rod, Yamaha V-Max, Suzuki B-King, Moto Guzzi Griso 8V and perhaps even Triumph Rocket III Roadster. The way I see it they all belong together in a type of muscle cruiser bruiser streetfighting soup of delightful torque and power. Harley-Davidson could have built a bike such as the Diavel when it developed the V-Rod with Porsche. However, Erik Buell once told me that that’s what he wanted to do, but the corporate Milwaukee muscle opted for something nearer to a traditional H-D product and bulked up as they always do.

The Diavel weighs in at what for this type of bike is an ultralight claimed 463 pounds. The whole Diavel project is a bit of a gamble for Ducati which it admits to when asked who its customer for this bike is. But we guess Ducati has applied the philosophy of “let’s build it and they’ll come.”

Interestingly Ducati has developed the bike to feature an all new rear tire size with Pirelli. The new Pirelli Diablo Rosso II in 240/45-ZR17 has an extremely low profile that makes the bike look menacing from the back coupled with an equally wide tail section. The front end is dominated by a huge round headlight flanked by what look like air intakes. The seat height is very low at 30.3 in. and the seat is well padded and looks comfy. ABS on Brembo monoblock brakes will be interesting to test. The bike is very long and it looks like the front would be pushed a bit with those powerful brakes and long wheelbase. The fuel tank carries 4.5 gal. of fuel.

Then it was time for the big one everybody had been waiting for – the Diavel. After showing several new videos showing the Diavel in action the stage exploded in light and smoke as a female rider rode the Diavel on to the stage. After some banter about the rider having to move off the bike so that we could appreciate the Diavel without any eye candy two more Diavels entered the stage. One white/aluminum colored and one in all black. The Red/black version is called Diavel Carbon and as the name implies it gets lots of carbon fiber bits.
